What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognizs and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Additional information

Our aim is to provide the highest standards, while ensuring our patients confidentiality and privacy. In order to provide the best possible care to our patients, we may need information regarding family history, past medical history and current condition. Consent may also be required for diagnostic tests and liaising with other health professionals.

As stated above we may need to pass your medical and personal information to other health professionals if deemed necessary for your care.

For this reason your consent is required for the following:

  • Printing, scanning and sending letters containing your personal information to GPs, hospitals, consultants via email and post.
  • Photocopying documents for referral purposes.
  • Disclosing information regarding your care to insurance companies in the case of insurance claims.
  • Keeping your records on file for the legally required period of time, currently 8 years.

 

We also collect and use personal information for secondary related purposes. These include the following.

  • To remind patients of appointments via text and/or email.
  • Follow-up phone calls related to your treatment.  
  • To invoice for services provided. The cost for some patients may be paid for by a third party (eg. Irish Life Health). These third parties have your consent or the authority to direct us to disclose certain information to ensure client entitlement for payment.

 

As stated above we may need to pass your medical and personal information to other health professionals if deemed necessary for your care.
