Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction - SPD

Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction commonly referred to as SPD, is a painful condition which affects the pelvic girdle and lower back during pregnancy. An increase in ligament laxity during pregnancy to assist during childbirth can leave your joints more mobile than usually putting excessive force on the pelvic girdle and lumbar spine. Pain can manifest itself in the lower back, pelvis or groin, with some experiencing episodes of sciatica.Early intervention is key to having a pain free pregnancy.
