Cure heel pain for good!

In recent weeks I have noted an increase in patients presenting to the clinic with localized heel pain. Sharp, piercing pain located under the heel, worse first thing in the morning or after exercise, is how they described it.
This common heel condition, medically known as Plantar Fasciitis, is slow to respond to conventional physiotherapy approaches. Muscle imbalances, poor footwear and/or an increase in training may lead to its onset. Many patients will have had massage, dry needling, stretching and strengthening exercises prescribed, yet months or sometimes years later are still suffering with this chronic condition.

This is where the introduction of Advanced Shock wave Therapy comes in. At Dunboyne Physiotherapy Clinic we are glad to introduce this newest physiotherapy intervention to final eliminate heel pain for good.
Also known as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, this pain management technique introduces high-energy sound waves into the painful areas of the body. Certain pathological alterations of tendons, ligaments and muscles, in other words the root cause of your pain can be eliminated systematically.
Treatment initiates a pro-inflammatory response in the tissue or tendon where the shockwaves have been applied.
The body responds by increasing circulation and metabolism in the injured area which in turn accelerates the body’s own healing processes. The shock waves break down injured tissue and calcification’s allowing for regeneration of new tissue.

Shock wave therapy can be implemented into many treatments including hamstring tendinopathies, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, rotator cuff tendinopathies and more.
It is a relatively pain free and quick treatment and combined with correctional exercises can have you on the road to recovery in no time.
